Meet Rick and Michelle Fravel, owners of Contemporary Air Systems
In 1983, at the age of 17, Rick began his career in the HVAC industry. Little did he know the sheet metal industry would be the beginning to a rewarding future. For ten years, he worked for various heating and air conditioning companies learning a wealth of knowledge as a sheet metal fabricator and installation mechanic.
In 1993, with a $500 loan from his mother, a beat up pickup truck and select sheet metal tools, Rick opened Contemporary Air Systems. With the desire to succeed, he obtained his master HVAC license.
In 1995, Rick met his soon to be wife and business partner, Michelle. In 1997, she graduated from college and they married. During those two years, Michelle assisted Rick in all aspects of the business. You would find her working on HVAC equipment, manufacturing or installing duct work, paying bills and scheduling appointments. The exposure she received, and their desire to be a leader in the industry, paved the way for the future of Contemporary Air Systems.
From 1997 to 2010, they worked side by side. Together, they repaired HVAC equipment and installed furnaces and air conditioners. During this time, Rick obtained his master gas fitters license. Michelle managed the finances and identified new avenues to grow the business. In 2010, the business changed. Michelle took an administration role where she could provide better customer service and they purchased an office and hired staff. Although the dynamics of the business changed, their goal of providing a 100% satisfaction guarantee and a total commitment to customer service did not. Contemporary Air Systems was named “Baltimore’s Best Heating and Air Conditioning Company” by Baltimore Magazine. They have over one hundred 5-star Google reviews.
